COLUMBUS, Ohio, July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Value City Department Stores, Inc. (NYSE: VCD - news) today announced that total sales for the five weeks ended July 1, 2000 increased 21.3% to $180.4 million from $148.7 million reported in the comparable year-earlier period. Same store sales increased 1.3%.

Sales for the 22 weeks ended July 1, 2000 increased 25.0% to $771.7 million from $617.4 million in the comparable year-earlier period. Same store sales increased 4.6%.

The above figures exclude sales of the Filene's Basement Stores acquired effective March 17, 2000. Sales for these stores, excluding licensed departments, totaled $24.0 million for the five weeks ended July 1, 2000 and $72.1 million for the period March 17, 2000 through July 1, 2000.
