COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/-- Jay Schottenstein, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Value City Department Stores, Inc. (NYSE: VCD - news) today announced the appointment of Alan Schlesinger as Value City's President and Chief Merchandising Officer. He replaces Michael Tanner who resigned to pursue other professional and personal interests. Schlesinger assumes his new position with Value City after joining Filene's Basement in June as President and CEO. Schlesinger has more than 35 years of experience as a retail merchant. From 1994 until he left to join Filene's, Schlesinger was President, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Lamonts Apparel, Inc. Before that he was with May Company as a Senior Vice President of Famous Barr in St. Louis and Robinson May in California. In the late 1980s, he was with Ross Stores as Executive Vice President of Merchandising and Marketing, where he played a key role in Ross's turnaround. Jay Schottenstein expressed his delight at Schlesinger's accepting this new role.
